Mykonos: The island of pleasures
Mykonos, the cosmopolitan island of Aegean and one of the symbols of the international ‘’ jet set’’. The island of winds, as it is also called, is almost in the center of the cluster of Cyclades and between Tinos and Naxos. It is the nearest island to Delos. The island is characterized by the intense local color and the Cycladic architecture, the wonderful beaches, the beautiful and picturesque churches and the gentle landscape.
All whole island is developed very well, in orderro satisfy every visitor. Many celebrities choose the island of Mykonos for their summer vacation and they also choose to build beautiful homes, enchanted by the air of the island.
The center of the island is Chora and its trademarkare the whitewashed houses, the stairs with the colored bars, the windows with beautiful flowers and the grafical streets that cahlallenge you to take a walk.
Furthermore, the white churches feat incredible with the landscape of Mykonos with the famous windmills located at the hill of the Castle. Visitors can take a tour of Matogianni, the most commercial street of the country where they can find designer’s clothes and jewelry. In parallel paths, there are many bars and cafes awaiting visitors to enjoy and relax.
One of the most beautiful times in Mykonos is during early morning, when tourists can enjoy the serenity and the sun that reflects on the white houses and the blue waters. Seems like a live painting.

The windmills, landmark of the island, south of the Castle area is one of the most popular destinations. In that area was the ancient citadel city of Mykonos.

Starting from the Archaeological Museum, with exhibits from Mykonos and the little island Rinia, and the Aegean Maritime Museum where people can see exhibits from the nautical tradition of the island, to the Folklore Museum. Also,there is the Agricultural Museum''Boni Windmill,''in Upward Mills, which operates as an outdoor folk museum, receiving widespread attention. From all this, visitors will gain a good impression of the historical tradition of the island.
Mykono’s Villages
The island consists of many villages, some of the most important that gather many tourists are listed below.
Agios Stefanos - Tourlos
This particular village is coastal and it is 2.5 km away from Chora. It is perhaps one of the most developed areas and has many hotels, restaurants and a water sports center, which entertains tourists by gaining new experiences. The name of the village is taken by the chapel.
Ano Mera: This is a village east of the country. Anyone who come to the village has to visit the monastery of Panagia Tourlianis and admire the wooden temple and the monastery’s architecture.Equally interesting are the monastery Palaiokastro,dating from 17th century, and Panormos bay, where there was the second most important city of the island in antiquity.
Kalafatis: It is a tourist resort on the east side. Located just 12 kilometers from Chora.
Ornos: Leeward is a picturesque bay with fine sand and beautiful beaches. At the port dock there are several boats and fishing boats.
Platis Gialos: This enchanting tourist’s resort seaside with beautiful sandy beaches and stately homes built on the rocks,cahrms the guests creating a beautiful landscape.
Beaches
The beaches of Mykonos is one of the best part of the island. The golden sand, the turquoise waters and the stunning scenery combined with the cosmopolitan or the peace at will, make the island a great destination that will not disappoint any visitor.
Each of these settlements has beautiful beaches that touridt can enjoy. More specifically, pleasant swimming and sunbathing is offered the large and lively beach of Agios Stefanos.
By Agios Stefanos, the tourists that are interested can get to the calm beaches of the island such as Panormos and Agios Sostis and they can exercise windsurfing in the upmarket Ftelia. This particular beach because of the north winds became known as a center for water sports. The beach in the village of Platis Gialos, is sandy and also has facilities for water sports. By car or by boat guests can reach the very famous and cosmopolitan beach Paradise and Super Paradise. There you can dance at parties at beach and bars under the hot sun. They can also visit the beaches of St. Anne and Panormos and the most ‘’sophisticated’’ beaches of Mykonos, Arari and Elia.
