Parikia: the two faces of beauty

To the west of the island Parikia is the proud owner of the island being the capital. Apart from this has also the privilege of hosting the church Ekatontapyliani, symbol of faith since the sovereignty of the Venetians.
Walking around the city, at each step find restaurants, tavernas and restaurants serving delicious dishes from local, Greek and international cuisine while the streets around the castle (old market) and the coastal road gather stores of every kind, local market cafes, leisure and club with live music until the early hours.

This is one side of the capital, because behind the cosmopolitan nature, lies an unexplored city with rich monuments and history... A walk through the narrow streets will lead you to ancient monuments, churches, lush balcony of a bygone era, bridges and all kinds of Cycladic houses. In short Parikia is the ideal place to combine modern life and tradition.

Sights: Ekatontapyliani will impress you with the magnificent building which according to tradition, owes its existence to a vow of St. Helena, to find the Holy Cross visiting the Holy Places. The house came out by the son of Grand Kostantinos after her death. The name is due to have 100 doors, one of which is hidden. The biggest festival of the island is the festival on the 15th of August, when the religious celebration is accompanied by great popular festival which is definitely worth attending.

Near the harbor lies the ancient cemetery, which came to light after the excavations on the coast near the street. It contains the graves of various types in different seasons. The most important finding is a polyandrion (mass grave), unique in the Aegean region, dating back to the end of the Geometric period (8th century BC.).
Following the coastal road, it will lead you to the hill of St. Anne which revealed place of worship of the god of medicine Asclepius, while following the opposite side you will reach the sacred site of worship of Apollo Delios, founded in the early 5th century. A place of high interest  is the hill of the Venetian castle in which there are the ruins of the temple of Demeter. Finally do not forget to visit the Archaeological Museum where you will have the opportunity to see sculptures of Archaic and Classical periods, ceramic finds, Roman mosaics and miniatures belonging to everyday life, originated from different periods.

However, is  situated 10 km from the capital, it is about  a small picturesque paradise that has everything. Naoussa knows how to maintain the character and authentic style. The interior of Naoussa is formed by whitewashed streets with traditional Cycladic houses, hospitable people and ancient monuments such as the ruins of the Venetian castle at the harbor entrance, the derelict mills on the edge of the village, the museum of Byzantine art and many churches and monasteries.

Despite the facilities for accommodation and the nightlife of the traditional character is not eroded. In this way, each summer, the first Sunday of July take place festivities of wine and fish. Big celebration is the Koursariki night on 23 August, during which Naoussa’s residents represent an invasion of pirates in the harbor, seeking to exorcise the memories of pirates pillaged for many years the island.
