Lipsi
Lipsi: An unknown paradise
You get bored of the routine and stress of everyday life? You are strongly thinking of "escaping" in a peaceful place by the sea that does not remind of anything the noisy Athens or secular islands that do not offer rest and peace? Then Lipsi is the ideal choice for you. On the southeast side of the Aegean, north of Leros and east of Patmos there is a cluster of islands with the largest the namesake island, Lipsi. It is about a quiet place that offers 'quality' holidays and absolute relaxation. The simple and hospitable people of the island in connection with the idyllic and peaceful landscape, give it a unique and special character. Let's report , in principle, some historical information about this "unknown" island: Lipsi inhabited in prehistoric times by Kares. Flourished during the Hellenistic period and until 1522 belonged to the sovereignty of the Monastery of Patmos. The current settlement of the island, which is unique and is located around the port, was founded in 1669 by a Cretan.
Behind the port of Lipsi lies the picturesque village with whitewashed houses and blue doors and windows. In the center of town is dominated by the majestic church of St. John and the little shady square with taverns, cafes and restaurants. During your stay you can visit the Castle with the ruins of the ancient citadel and tombs and the Church - Folklore Museum in the building of the municipality.
In Lipsi you will enjoy swimming in the calm pristine secluded beaches with crystal waters. The closest to the port is the beach of “Lentus” and the “Kira Vasilena. South of the harbor there is Katsadia, the beach of “Charos” and the shingle beach Chachlakoura. North you will meet “M
onodendri”, nudist beach, and northeast “Platis Gialos” with white sand and turquoise waters.
During your stay on the island do not forget to taste the local red wine with the wonderful perfume!
If you are interested in further exploring the surroundings of Lipsi you can visit Arki. It is the largest island in a cluster of small islands north of Lipsi. Arki is the ideal destination for those who desire recluse vacation. The island is quite isolated, has few residents and is preferred for day excursions from the neighboring islands.
Finally, you can visit the Agathonisi, the most northern island in the Dodecanese. You will enjoy a swim in the pebbly beach of Agios Georgios and westerly, the crystal water of “Cochlias” beach. You can also eat at the picturesque taverns of the area.
