A few words about the town Corfu
Corfu Town is the most beautiful in Greece and took its form at the time of Venetian rule. The main features of the city is Espianada,the largest square in Balkans, the broad avenues and the picturesque winding alleyways. The old town is an important part of the settlement and retained its traditional style. Espianada is the center of island’s life with many monuments and the market that surrounds the town, gathering large crowds. To the east front of the bay Garitsa dominates the Old Fort, one of the island’s attractions.
Corfu’s Villages
Corfu consists of many settlements, below will be mentioned indicatively, the most known villages that gather many tourists.
Paleokastritsa: Is the most famous and sung around Corfu. Located 25km northwest of the capital in a great location. This is an internationally renowned resort with dominant colors the nature’s green and the blue of the Ionian Sea. It is a paradise consisting of six bays, Agia Triada, Plotakia, Alipa, St. Spyridon, St. Peter and Ambelakia.
The monuments that tourists can visit in this village are the monastery of Zoodoxou Pigi, the Angeliokastro and the church of Agia Kyriaki. Exciting is the view of Paleokastritsa from the village Lacones. There is formed a natural Plakoma, like a balcony that is named, Bella Vista (Beautiful View). The tourists will be charmed by the beautiful picture.
Pelekas-Glyfada: Pelekas is a traditional village, built on a hill with splendid view. It is located 13km from the capital and the location of the village offers picturesque sunsets.
Pyrgi: This is a pretty town of Corfu, with many tourists. It is located 16km from the capital and will enchant all visitors.
Roda-Acharavi: It is a picturesque village on the north coast of Corfu, with tourist facilities and is located 38km away from the capital. The coastal Acharavi is a beautiful area that combines the mountain and the sea. The place is full of archaeological sites and also may visit the lagoon Antintoni which has ecological interest. More specifically, is a landmark for many aquatic birds. In the spring the landscape is breathtaking and the shores are filled with colorful flowers and plants.
Sidari: It is a coastal tourist resort that stretches up to Peroulades. It gathers many tourists because of the charming landscape and the clear waters. It is located 31km away from Corfu.
Agios Gordios: It is one of the most popular touristrial villages of Corfu.The feature of the village is the beach with the tall, upright rock on the beach. Agios Gordios is located 16km southwest of Corfu.
St. Matthew: On the south side of Corfu is located the village, St Matthew. It is a large village with many attractions that gather the interest of tourists. Lagoon Chalkouna is on of the places that should be visited by the tourists. The settlement is located in a spectacular forest with ideal routes. The visitors will find the village 23km southwest of Corfu.
Agios Stefanos, Arillas, Agios Georgios Pagon: It is a wonderful location with a beach of 2500 meters and lush vegetation that have made the area a cosmopolitan center. The beautiful bay is being protected by the islands Gavras, Diaplous and Marathaki. Arillas is 39km north of Corfu town. It is a small village with traditional hotels, boarding houses and taverns, with amazing beach and clear shallow sea.
Ano Karakiana: A mediterranean village, full of surprises and the unique characteristic of the 37 churches. It is located 18km away from the capital and has 1,000 inhabitants with great tradition and choral music. In this town operates the biggest factory of ceramics in Corfu and has a spectacular collection of ceramics.
