ISLAND

Continuing our travel in Aegean we reach in the north-eastern part, in the islands that existing there.  These islands are Thassos, Ikaria, Lesvos, Limnos, Samothrace, Samos and Chios. They are a small paradise that fascinates the travelers, they are full of plants and ancient cultures. The emerald islands of north-eastern Aegean are distinguished for their unique beauty and their unforgetable history that begins from the ancient years. They are found in the crossroad of three continents, Europe, Asia and Africa, and also they came in contact with the beaches of Asia Minor, so that they are influenced by all these different cultures and they create an alloy of East and West.

The islands of North-eastern Aegean developed very important cultures and they absorbed very well all the elements that are related to the Greek culture. But also their present culture is equally important. They have been changed in modernized tourist resorts, particularly popular for tourists of all over the world, simultaneously, however, they maintain inalterable elements of their tradition.

Many are the natural lovers that decide to visit islands as they allocate infrequent flora and fauna, and it is like you are living in a big adventure. Others are astonished by the wonderful shores or the romantic harbors and the aquamarine sea waters. They are glad of the intense sun and the cool sea and generally of anything offers them amusement.

In many of these islands, historical monasteries and churches that are connected with various myths dominate. Many are the faithfuls that reach in these islands with a concrete aim: to visit these religious monuments and to feel the atmosphere by entering the holy space. The castles and the historical sightseeing, some of which are from the Byzantine season, reveal important historical references and they provoke us to open our eyes and see the things of the past to be revealed in front of us.

Lesvos or Mitilini as it commonly said, Sapfo’s home, is one of the biggest Greek islands. A unique island, with the immense olive groves take turns at the pinewoods, the splendid beaches with the crystal waters and the sanatory sources, the numb forest and the unique archaeological and historical heritage, you will be filled by pictures with colors infrequent combined in the nature. In the traditional taverns you will enjoy splendid flavors but do not forget to combine your lunch with the well-known ouzo Mitilini!

Chios is the “fragrant” island of North-eastern Aegean with mastic trees, the medieval villages and  the unique shores. The mastic produced in Chios is acquaintance in all over the world so much for her flavor but also for its profits for the health. In the island you will find a lot of shops that sell mastic and many products of gum that you hadn’t even imagined. With regard to the taverns, you will find very a lot of them and in particular almost in each beach of the island where you can eat fresh tastiest fish. As for the beaches, in Chios you have many choices, the most famous of which are Elinta, Tigani, Broylidia, Big Limnionas, and many others.

Limnos, Ifaistos’ home, are characterized by big flat extents and low mountains. The golden sandy beaches and its spotless sea waters will enchant you, while its archaeological spaces are giving you inspiration to search also on your own some more elements of its history. It is ideal for those who want to avoid the rush and the crowed places by enjoying the nature.

Samos, the island that Pythagoras was born, is mountainous with immense forests in its mountains. You will be fascinated with its sandy beaches and its limpid waters but you will be undecided about which to choose as it has so many beaches. Even the hottest days of summertime, Samos will refresh you with its sweet breeze as its climate is generally very sweet and soft. The island produces various products, as cheese and honey, its acquaintance however product is its wine, smooth Samos’ wine which quality is uncontradictable.

Ikaria is the mountainous full of plants island of the fabulous hero Icarus. Wander in the inexperienced paths of island, go deep in its blue seas, taste local specialists and feel glad by the splendid sunset. Can you imagine you day rolling more beautifully?

The small but especially beautiful islands, Psara, Oinoysses, Fourni and Agios Eustratios, while they are not mainly known, they keep their beauties inalterable and they deserve you to visit them and to get to know their hospitable residents.
