Methana: The island of Spas
Methana, the lush peninsula which is connected to the prefecture of Argolida by a narrow isthmus, that is called Steno.
The main features of the island is the volcano of the island, the springs where visitors can get refreshed, the calm beaches with clear waters and the original landscape, that seems like it has never been touched by the time.
The island of Methana combines the capacity of the spa with the charm of the picturesque fishermen’s port.
The tour of the island
Methana has attractions which worth visiting during the tourist’s arrival in the island and all of them are in a walking distance. Starting with the cave''Pristeriwn'' in Steno area, and the verdant island of St. Anargyroi that is located in the harbor, visitors can get an idea of the beauties of the island.
Peninsula have many ruins of different periods of antiquity, and ancient fortifications. Specifically, in a short distance from the port, in the plateau Throni, tourists can see the ancient fortifications. After that visitors can go and meet village Dritsaiika and admire the magnificent view of the Saronic Gulf. Ιn the village Vathi, visitors can see the remains of ancient citadel and the temple.In Vathi they can also visit the crater of the volcano, in the elevation Kameni.
As tourists pass from Megalohori can enjoy the view and the Church of the Presentation.
Beaches
In the peninsula of Methana, there are several beaches regulated and non, remote and crowded. Visitors can swim in the tranquil bays or in rocky coastlines. But the common point of the island's beaches is the natural beauty. In the town of Methana there is a great beach, 200 meters from the port, and a little farther at Limionas in Saint Theodore.
In Vromolimni’s area visitors can relax in the hot springs. The name of the place comes from the strong fumes of sulfurous sources. The waters help the people with rheumatism and skin diseases. Also in the area of St. Nicholas exist chlorinated sources which also help people to medical problems
In Vathi village, visitors can swim in Almira beach and walk the path that leads to the cave ‘’Peristeriwn’’.

Entertainment
Visitors can taste fresh fish, both in Methana, and coastal villages. There are also many restaurants, cafes and bars that will fill the nights of tourists with entertainment and dance.
Local Products
Methana, as a traditional island have many seafood delicasies that guests should try, the food is definitely fresh and at prices that entice those who are interested in tasting it. Also, visitors can accompany their meal with local fine wine.
Internal bus
The tourists of the island can be trasported on a daily base, by bus to Megalochori, Vathi, Kounoupitsa-Palaia Loutra, Steno-Taktikoupoli and Kalloni.
How to get there
Travelers can reach the beautiful peninsula of Methana, by ferry from Piraeus every day in 2 hours. Also, with a dolphin off the coast Tzelepi and Zea, with regular services especially during the summer months, in 1 hour and 5 minutes. By car there is access from Nafplio, in 2 hours and 30 minutes.
